She takes me back home to a blue sky

with a little red fire in her eye

Her hands eagerly tug my own,

no hesitation left to be alone

So we lay down our shouldered burdens,

not too worried about what lies beyond the curtains

We smile quietly at the inconceivable expanse,

letting our minds rest for a chance

And beneath us the fabric of a trampoline sways,

bowing to her childlike ways

It reminds me of who I was

despite all the pain I caused

“Long ago this was us,” I said,

knowing all too soon she would be dead

Yet, her little fingers splayed wide

refusing to let her happiness be denied

“We are home,” she cried,

knowing for us there was no better place to hide.
